Terre Haute is a city in and the county seat of Vigo County, Indiana, United States, near the state's western border with Illinois. As of the 2010 census, the city had a total population of 60,785 and its metropolitan area had a population of 170,943.

Located along the Wabash River, Terre Haute is the self-proclaimed capital of the Wabash Valley. The city's population density was 1,759.8 inhabitants per square mile. There were 25,518 housing units at an average density of 738.8 per square mile. The racial makeup of the city was 83.5% White, 10.9% African American, 0.4% Native American, 1.4% Asian, 0.8% from other races, and 2.9% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.1% of the population.
